Find a Fairfax tutor on UniversityTutor.com to help your child apply for admission to Thomas Jefferson High School.
Fairfax County Public Schools serves over 188,000 students and operates 198 schools and learning centers, including Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST). A few private schools are found in Fairfax as well, and post-secondary institutions include George Mason University, Columbia College - Fairfax, Stratford University, and Virginia International University. Getting your child admitted to Thomas Jefferson High School involves an application process in which freshman, sophomore, and junior students must meet specific eligibility requirements.
Freshman students who apply to TJHSST must live with a parent or guardian in Fairfax County, Arlington County, Loudoun County, Prince William County, or Falls Church City. In addition to providing proof of residency, applicants must meet Algebra 1 math requirements and have a GPA of 3.0 by the end of 7th grade. Students applying for TJHSST in winter or summer must also take admissions tests, which consist of the Quant-Q and ACT Aspire Reading and Science. Semifinalists must complete a Student Information Sheet and essay, as well as submit two teacher recommendations.
The school also admits students into its sophomore class, although this number is very limited. Freshmen not offered admission may be eligible to apply. Each applicant must complete a Student Information Sheet with short answer responses and a personal essay. A copy of the applicant's high school transcript is also required along with proof of residency and PSAT/SAT scores. Students can also apply for their junior year, although those who have applied for freshman or sophomore rounds cannot apply for the junior class.
You can find a handful of in-person Fairfax tutors on UniversityTutor.com who can help with your child's TJHSST application, with about 10 more online. A Fairfax Thomas Jefferson tutor can help prepare the appropriate documents and also help your child study English, math, science, and other topics they will be expected to understand.
